Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone
by J. K. Rowling
Reviewed by Sara H. BGS Harry Potter is a very unusual boy. For starters, unusual stuff always seems to happen around him. He has a lightning bolt shaped scar on his forehead. His aunt and uncle always told him it was from a car crash and that was how his parents had died. One day a letter comes in the mail addressed in green ink, sealed with a picture of a badger, serpent, eagle and a lion. Around them is the word Hogwarts. His aunt and uncle took it off him before he could see what it was. Then, a huge person named Rubeus Hagrid comes through the door and tells him he is a..... wizard! Read to see what happens next! I really loved reading this book and love how well the author uses words to describe how something looks because there were no pictures. I rate it a 10/10! |

It also gives all the girls out there a big boost, and a chance to be inspired by the incredible women who have done unbelievable things. |
Mega Monster by David Walliams
Reviewed by Jesse Y. BGS Larker is a hilarious girl, who has had a sad life so far. Her parents died and the only thing that keeps her happy is making jokes. But I am not sure if they will save her from this horrible school. There are terrifying groundskeepers and an evil science teacher. And monsters! Every book I have read lately is about bad schools. The reason I chose this book for a book review is that it had a lot of hilarious words and phrases. The pictures were cool, but the story-line was awesome. I loved it! I love the fact David Walliams shows us the characters beforehand. This story reminds me of Godzilla and big creatures because all the monsters are huge. |

Romance, and heartbreak, and security... Jeez they're having a bad holiday. Back to me telling you why it's good. I loved the pictures, because they really put what the author is trying to tell you, and you can see it. It really helps. The events in the story were really well planed like the security (I wont go into to much detail because of spoilers). I would recommend this book to people aged 6-11. I rate it 8 out of 10. |
Team Tryouts! (Daring Delly #1)

Reviewed by Nate C. SCPS I thought this book was pretty amazing because one, it's about basketball and two, it's about an NBA/NBL player when he was a kid. I really love how the author added in basketball terms such as chest pass, jump shot and layup. Even at the start of the book there are some pictures of stick men in the middle of a basketball technique of how to do it. The the book is based on Matthew Dellavedova and his teammates going up against Melbourne's best junior basketball team and the best part was when they went to go play them. I really love how they main characters send each other little notes like " Hey Delly have you ever felt like giving up?" I'd rate this book a solid 8/10. |

The Last Bear by Hannah Gold
Reviewed by Sam McK. BGS In this book we are introduced to our main character April where she has to go to Bear Island which has no bears apparently, for her dad’s new job. When she arrives there, she sees a silhouette in the distance and finds a fully grown polar bear but when time is running out and bear cannot stay on the island, she has to do something. In this book it is an action filled story of two near-impossible friends trying to get of the island. The author, Hannah Gold, always has the reader guessing on what's going happen and having an extremely good mix between detail and the text still moving forward and also the family text bits like when April has a fight with her father. Then there is the extreme amount of emotion, there was so much emotion that I was about to shed some tears. Also there were warnings about global warming in this book. Hannah Gold has informed me a bit more about global warming and I am very intrigued on what other books she writes. I would recommend this book if you like a very unpredictable book and if you like a realistic book that gets you emotional all the time and gives you the feeling that the animals are humans. Overall this is a lovely book and I give it a 10/10! |

Reviewed by Samuel McK. BGS I have enjoyed reading this book because it is a story about a kid's footy journey, and I am big fan of footy. I am a hard Dogs supporter. This is a story I loved, not only because of the subject, but also the structure. It has little problems along the way, but it also keeps the story moving forward. Also, it gives a view of Specky’s life and gives the reader an understanding of how Specky would have felt during this story, like it’s putting you into his shoes. Then they also put a little short bit of information about the character that gives you an understanding of the character. Also, the use of real rules or things that happen in the real world in the book make it feel like this is happening in real life. I would recommend this book if you are a footy fan and if you love the personalised view of Specky during the story and the little side tasks that are an impact in the story and if you like realistic stories that make you imagine this in real life. |

There’s so many different times in the book where there are shock and wonders… so much that you can’t even put the book down. This is why I would recommend reading this wonderful book Lucky Strike. I would recommend this book if you love to read books that are fictional but sound real and if you love a book with a major events everywhere in the story that also gives a lot of emotion in the events and an occasional twist which you can never guess when it will occur so the future of the story is a mystery. |
