Specky Magee and the Season of Champions |
Reviewed by Jack M, CPS. This is a book about Specky who is a young football fanatic. He gets his name from the awesome 'speckys' he makes playing football. In this book, Specky has a knee injury which annoys him because he cannot play football to impress a special sports school. Specky realises that even just supporting your team can mean a lot to them. I rate this book 10/10 because it is interesting and I am a big football fan like Specky. I recommend this book to any footy fans 8+ |
Dog Man and Cat Kid by Dave Pilkey
Reviewed by Harley S, BPS. In Dog Man and Cat Kid, Dog Man is told to be a bodyguard for Yolay, and Petey takes Lil Petey to the gassy Behemoth studios. They dress up in costumes making Lil Petey Cat Kid. Petey makes a robot that looks like a giant taco come to life. Cat Kid and the Bark Knight (Dog Man) save the day by taking down Philly the Taco Robot. Then they all go to bed...or do they?! I think this book is the best Dog Man so far because it’s even funnier than the other books. I love all the new characters, like Yolay. I rate it 8 out of 10. For kids at the age of 5+ |
Hot Dog #6: Movie Time by Anh Do
Reviewed by Matilda K, CPS Hotdog and his friends, Lizzie and Kev, find out that there are movie tryouts soon. They want to be movie stars, so they start training right away. You'll have to read this book to find out if they get the roles they want. Read it alone or with your parents! I rate this book 9/10 because it's got fabulous pictures and it's really funny. I recommend this book for ages 4+ (but you might need to read with a grown up if you’re little). |
Dog Man: Mothering Heights by David Pilkey
Reviewed by Tegan. S, MRPS This book is about Petey’s story and like usual, it also has some action in it. It also has lots of funny songs sung by of course Molly and Little Petey. I love this book, and in my opinion, it was funny. It was also sad because of Petey’s history. I rate this book 9/10 because it’s probably my favourite out of the whole entire Dog Man series. I recommend this book for anyone 4+ because it’s really good. I reckon little kids would especially love the songs (but you might need to read with a grown up if you’re little). |
Dog Man by David Pilkey
Reviewed by Tegan S, MRPS This book is about Dog Man trying to capture/arrest Petey. Dog Man succeeds, but there is this one scene or page that got me up on my toes. I was very scared for poor Dog Man. Petey decided to use his mind and he had a dog whistle. He used it to put all the dogs in town, including Dog Man, in a giant cage with spikes on the roof, so when he clicked the button, the spikes began to lower and lower and lower … if you want to know what happens next, you’ll have to get the book. I like this book because it had lots of action in it. I rate this whole book 8.5/10. I would recommend this book ages 6+ because it may be a bit difficult for the little ones to read. |
WeirDo #18: Weird History by Anh Do
Reviewed by Sylvia.C MRPS One day a boy called Weir Do (His first name is Weir and his last name is Do) goes to school one day with his friends when his teacher says that everyone has to write a book about history. Wait to find out who wins it’s very funny! I like how there are lots of jokes especially this one: ‘what’s a snakes favourite subject? It’s hissssssstory!’ I rate this book a 8/10 because it was really funny. I recommend this to ages 4+ because it was really funny and it would get a lot of laughs from little kids. I also recommend this book to people who love having a laugh and people who have something different about them and are proud of it. |
Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl
Wonder by R.J. Palacio
Reviewed by Kate L. SPS Wonder by R.J. Palacio is about a boy named August. August is different than other kids his age because he looks different, but he is just a normal kid. August is going to go to a new school and is in 5th grade. Everyone starting at the school is new, but they him consider an outcast due to how he looks. Later on, he gets to choose if he stays or goes. I rate this book an 8.7/10 because its heartwarming. I recommend this book anyone in Year 5+. |
Boyz Rule! Hit the Beach by Felice Arena
Reviewed by Addalyn P. MRPS In this book Matt and Nick spent the day at the beach. Matt and Nick were body surfing and sand digging when something touched Nick's leg. Little does he know it’s just a snorkeler looking under the waves. I liked this book because of how much detail the illustrator Mitch Vane used while illustrating this book. I would rate this book a 7.9 out of 10 because I like how it was laid out. I would recommend this book for ages 8+. |
Twitch by M.G. Leonard
Reviewed by Matilda K. CPS The book Twitch is about a boy named Twitch. A bully, Jack, and a man named Billy are other characters. Twitch enjoys watching birds and keeps them as pets. During the story a robber escapes from prison and Twitch finds out he can't trust anybody. I read the book in one go to solve the mystery. This is an amazing book with a mix of bullying and mystery. Read this book to find out who these people truly are. I rate this book 10/10 because no one is who they seem to be. I recommend this book for ages 7+. |
Ninja Toys (Ninja Kid #7)
by Anh Do
Reviewed by Peter Y. YPCC This book is about two kids who are ninjas. There is also a villain called Dr. Kane. Grandma creates a glove of life and Kenny and Ninja Kid take it for a science fair project. The glove gets taken by Dr. Kane and he creates and evil toy army, but then Kenny and Ninja Kid take the glove back. They create a good toy army and fight back. They turn the evil toys back to normal, but then they accidentally shoot Dr. Kane and he turns into a toy. I think it's a really good story. I rate it 10/10 because it's really funny. I recommend it to people who like Anh Do stories. |

Braver and Boulder (InvestiGators #5)
by John Patrick Green
Reviewed by Jaxson T. YPCC Once there were two alligators named Bash and Mango. They are called The InvestiGators, because they are investigating alligators. They lived in a giant robot alligator and they are investigating the Boulder Buddies. This is a good book. My favourite part is where they live. There are lots of characters like Red Lobster and Octopus. I rate it 7/10. I recommend it for anyone 7+. |
Sydney Under Attack by Sophie Masson
Reviewed by Matilda K. CPS Sydney Under Attack is about a boy named Nick Holt, who is twelve years old, and lives with his mum and his little sister, Tilly. His dad works as a war correspondent and he is never really at home. Nick thinks he has seen a Japanese plane flying around the city. He tells everyone, but no-one believes him. Later, Nick is woken up to find Sydney is under attack. Along with the bombing, Nick goes through a series of events. I didn't really like this story because it didn't feel like Sydney was actually getting attacked. It felt like war was starting, then it ended straight away. I think this book needs more action. I recommend this book for ages 9 - 14 years. I rate it 6/10. |

And guess what? But these guys are good guys, they find trouble, they save cats and help dogs escape from the pound. I rate this book 10/10. I recommend that anyone who likes reading funny books should read the Bad Guys. |

Their reactions are so funny too! I loved this book because it was really interesting and funny!!! I rate this a 9/10 because it was good (it didn’t really make sense but it was still really interesting). I recommend this book for ages 5+ for two reasons. One: because it has no colours, and Two: because ages five+ like pictures and it has lots of them! |

Matilda by Roald Dahl
Reviewed by Noah C. YPCC Matilda is eight years old and she loves reading books. One day she went to the library and got lots of books. Her dad ripped one of her books and she was sad. She went to school. Mrs. Trunchball is the mean headmistress but her teacher, Miss Honey, is nice. My favourite part was when the hat got stuck on her dad's head. I recommend this book to people who like books and school. I rate it 10/10. |

Alfie Cat In Trouble by Rachel Wells
Reviewed by Tannah B. CLPS Imagine you're a doorstep cat (a cat that goes to different streets and houses). You get into trouble for accidentally smudging cat food into the carpet, so you go to a different house to get away from your problems.... Well Alfie did exactly that. He went to the Clover's house (who were moving in). Stanley, who is eight, is jealous of his older sister Viola, who never gets in to any trouble. Stanley keeps getting in to trouble and gets yelled at. Alfie is trying to get his family back together, can he do it? I rate this book 8/10 because it is happy when they are doing well, but sad when poor Stanley gets into trouble. I recommend this book to people aged 8+. |

I recommend this book for ages 10 plus. I rate it a 9/10. |
Dog Man Unleashed by Dav Pilkey

Flat Petey fails and they live happily ever after. OR DO THEY? I give this book a 8.5/10. I recommend this book for ages 6+. |

Slinky Malinki by Lynley Dodd
Reviewed by George D. CLPS Have you ever heard of Slinky Malinki? If not, I'm sure you've heard of Hairy Maclary. Slinky Malinki is a much loved side character in the tales of Hairy Maclary. Slinky Malinki is a lovely cat but at night he steals mountains of goodies like a squishy banana, some glue, a pen and a cushion from Oliver Tulliver's den! Overall, this is a good read and very good for younger kids. I like reading books that were read to me when I was a kid because most of them are absurd and I like remembering little sentences that I can still remember. I rate this book 9/10 because I am still dazed at how the author found all of the rhyming words. I recommend it to everyone because I feel like anyone would find enjoyment from this story. |

I thought it was hilarious when they did the old 'Is your refrigerator running?' joke! I recommend this book for ages 10 plus! I rate it a 9.9/10. |
The Twits by Roald Dahl
Reviewed by Elena B. SPS At the start the Twits start playing pranks on each other, like the glass eye, when Mrs Twit put her glass eye in a cup, the frog trick, and just heaps of other tricks. The Twits are very disgusting, mean and dirty. I really liked this book because it was humorous and funny. I rate it 8.5/10. I recommend it to someone who is a prankster and is a humorous person. |

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
by J.K. Rowling
Reviewed by Elena B. SPS I'm currently reading Harry Potter. In the first chapter Harry was living with his uncle, Vernon and aunty, Petunia. They needed to move somewhere else because Harry kept getting letters from Hogwarts. His aunty and uncle are only looking after him because Harry's parents died when Lord Voldemort killed them. Harry keeps getting letters because he's a wizard, so they told Hagrid to get Harry. Hagrid didn't know, that Harry didn't know, that he's a wizard.
