Hi everyone,
It's been a tough year for the Bulldogs Read Program. I am very proud of everyone who read books and wrote reviews. I wish we could have seen authors, gone to the footy and had a day with the inflatables, as well as skyping with the players. I hope that next year we can return to the program as we know it. For the schools who did the program this year, if you wish to do it again next year, you won't have to re-apply, you will automatically be granted a place! And now to the winner....drum roll please.... The winner of the Bulldogs Read Program 2020, receiving a fully autographed Bulldogs jumper and an awesome book pack is.... Jone from BGS. Congratulations!

Reviewed by Shayla C. BGS Robert Hoge is a really good author because he gives you not to much detail but enough about himself so you know what's going on. I think it's really good that he inspired himself to write a book about himself and call himself ugly. In the story when the baby was born, the mother didn't even look at her baby boy. She called the baby Robert. She didn't like her baby, so she said she wasn't going to take her baby home. After two weeks the family decided that they were going to have a vote and see if Robert was going to come home, all the kids said yes for Robert coming home, so he did. When he was four, he was going to have surgery. When Robert was in the surgery there were a lot of surgeons and they were moving his eyes closer to his nose and making his nose smaller and taking his foot off and his leg off. After that he was ready to go to school. Robert made a few friends at school and a few friends near his house. At school they had sports on Friday and his parents wouldn't let him do the sports that the children would go out of school for because It was too rough for him. So, he had to do fake sports at school. When he moved to the Middle School, they did sports on Tuesday and he was doing Balls and the first day he had fun. He kept on doing it and then the second time there was a new trainer called Frank . After a couple of weeks Frank asked Robert if he would like to do training with him, and then after a while he got to play with older people that he loved. When he was in Year 10, he was going to get another surgery and his parents asked if he wanted it or not and he said “No.” He knew he looked fine. Robert Hoge said at the end “I knew I was ugly. But everyone is uglier than they think. We are all more beautiful too.” I recommend this book for people that have disabilities and doctors that would like to know more strategies to deal with people like this. The Beach Shack Cafe (Pippa's Island#1)
by Belinda Murrell
Reviewed by Shayla C. BGS Belinda Murrell is a really good author because she made me believe that she was telling a true story. She told you everything you need to know, and you wanted to keep on reading. She made it so you can picture the story in your head and what's happening, and you can know how the characters are feeling and she puts a lot of detail in the story. Philippa is the main character. Everyone calls her Pippa. She moved to Kira Island with her mum, her sister Bella and her brother Henry. They moved from London. They are living in their grandparent’s caravan next to their grandparent’s house. Pippa is nervous to be going to a new school. She gets welcomed by her new friends Meg, Charlie and Cici, but she has an enemy, Olivia. Olivia is not very nice to Pippa and Olivia is jealous of Pippa. Pippa’s Mum had a crazy idea to buy a beach shack to do up and live in it and have a little library and a cafe. Pippa finds it a bit hard to fit in and her friend help her to settle in and that makes Pippa happy. Her Mum was struggling to finish the cafe, so Pippa’s friends' family helped to finish the cafe in time for the opening night. If you move to a new school or a new place this book can help you to find your way and to keeps you not as nervous and to not be scared and miss your friends. I recommend this book for 9 to 12 year olds or if you just moved to a new place or new school because this will help you. I rate this book and 10 /10. I loved this book. |
